Russell Simmons x Lupe Fiasco discuss the difference between Osama and Obama [Part 2]

After part 1 yesterday, here's part 2 of Russell and Lupe's dialogue about America & Politics. Check an excerpt below:

Lupe: The only reason I agreed with Obama was because he was black but I had no any type of inkling that he would be any different from any politician for one he was trained in the Chicago machine which is the most corrupt political entity on Earth.

When you come down to the nuts and bolts we have two consecutive governors one is in prison right now the other they’re deliberating his future right now in one of the courts in Chicago and Obama comes from that world.

I already knew from stand up that it was basic politics but the only reason I agreed with it is because he was a black man. With him being a black man I immediately held him to a standard of other black presidents.

I immediately held him up to the standard of Robert Mugabe and the better which was Nelson Mandela. If you’re gonna be a black president and you’re gonna stand up for something and you’re gonna stand up for the oppression and the quiet oppression that exists in the U.S. then you need to be like Nelson Mandela.

So I guess there is no reason to think a kid from the ghetto is going to grow into anything beside a criminal?

Lupe is a smart man and I am a HUGE fan of his but his arguments are, well, weak. His talk about how Osama and Obama being the same is idiotic. Osama planned attacks with the hope of killing innocent people and causing the economic downfall of America (wall street servers were located on the floor that the planes struck on the World Trade Towers).

  2. On calling Obama the biggest terrorist, have you done the math on how many innocent civilians have died at the hands of American forces during his time? Obama is not an necessarily a bad person or sinister but it is the fact that he works within a system that is of itself designed to terrorize the majority (worldwide. You are right he is not singly to blame for that but he is currently the face of American policies both internally and internationally. And if he is to take credit for the good that he has done, he is to take equal blame for the terror and other shortcomings during his time.
America is a corporation and he is the CEO. Tell me a head of any organization in the world whose subordinates have raked up more civilian deaths that Obama over the last 3 years.

Yes, context is everything but its easy to say that if you you have never experienced a cluster bomb.

They are both equally bad. Suppose we agree that Osama intention was to kill only civilians while Obama's (replace with any other president) is for the most part protect civilian. The question is that whose organization/corporation/army is killing the more civilians?

Conclusion: The good intentioned guy is responsible for more civilian deaths than the evil minded guy. How does pointing that out make Lupe's argument idiotic?

    We all want peace.

  3. There will be no peace, if bussines is alive, like Lupe says it's not a war from 300 years ago or whatsoever, it's war for bussines and people are dying from it. And the first Anon clearly didn't read his explanation really well. What is the difference between Osama making plans about blowing up buildings and Obama or any president making plans about sending an army and kill inocent people or flying aircraft with a huge bomb in it and loose it on a city in Iraq. Seriously what is the difference if it's for defence than kill the Murderer not innocent citizens. Clearly America is being a terrorist to wether you like it or not because US is decreasing his level to his "enemies" or opponent's level. Wich leads to more terror and war. There will never be peace if people are to busy with the things that happened in the past and if they want to make "bussines" by killing people to get their bussines right.

  4. In response to hd; ypu're just as guilty as Lupe when it comes to ignorance about American Government. When you look at defense of America; the president is literally a figure head. There is the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense, The CIA, Congress (to include the senate), Homeland Security, plus all the small agencies that are unknown to the public. I play my role in it all being in the Air Force, and I'm a big Lupe fan but the comment is backwards and his justifications are transparent.

  5. To Anon^^^,
How is that different from what I said above:

"Obama is not an necessarily a bad person or sinister but it is the fact that he works within a SYSTEM that is of itself designed to terrorize the majority (worldwide. You are right he is not singly to blame for that but he is currently the FACE of American policies both internally and internationally."

    1. Okay replace "SYSTEM" with "Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense, The CIA, Congress (to include the senate), Homeland Security, plus all the small agencies that are unknown to the public"

    2. Also replace "FACE" with "figure head"

Are we on the same page?

  6. He's really right about not being given the education to do certain things on our own. Like what school teaches agriculture anymore, straight up farming skills? They know if they do that we'll be making our own food and not buying their chemically enhanced "produce" and whatnot. It's like it's no longer necessary to learn the skills needed for basic survival.

  7. To Hd and many others... I think something that may be being overlooked is the amount of power a president actually has. We all have seen how hard it is for Obama to get anything done in terms of health care. Mainly due to republicans just wanting him to fail.

My point is Obama is not a dictator. He does not get to do whatever he wants. So even though he is the face of the U.S. government it is not the same thing as the leader and founder of Al Queda. Bin Laden had much more absolute power than Obama. That make him more singularly responsible than Obama. And that's why Lupe's comment is a bit of hyperbole. Now if you say the US government that's a different story. Is Obama a saint? No. Biggest terrorist? C'mon now.

I think most of us hear will agree that our government is run by big business so wouldn't big business be the biggest terrorist?
