Nas says Lupe Fiasco is keeping Hip Hop Alive

In a recent interview with Music News Daily, they asked Nas what he thought about the current state of Hip Hop today and this is what he had to say:

I know you probably been asked this a million times but do you think Hip-Hop is still dead?

Yeah, yeah it is. Yeah, but the new artists that I’m loving they coming from the UK, they coming United States, they coming from all over the world and a few in particular are J. Cole, Jay Electronica. I’m really into them and I’m excited for Lupe Fiasco’s new album ‘Lasers’ and Raekwon’s new album so the spirit of Hip-Hop is alive and well. The spirit is, can’t kill the spirit.

  5. Nas never dealt with the crap Lupe has. Columbia never bothered him on the content that he released. That's really because he was going multi-platinum plus on every album he released after Illmatic. No need to bother something that's selling at that rate. He did records like "You Owe" on his own with Steve Stoute being the only influence. I know probably likes that message of Lasers, but he probably thinks the album as a whole is completely wack.

  11. "Nas never dealt with the crap Lupe has. Columbia never bothered him on the content that he released."

He dealt with it one some levels. You can't be a hip hop artist and not have to deal with the label. Hell, you can't be an artist PERIOD and not have to deal with the label. Remember how they made him change the name of his album "Nigger" and he didn't want to so he just left it untitled. He was real mad.

He also said in one of the songs in it, "If Nas can't say it, think about these talented kids with new ideas, bein told what they can and can't spit"

Nas knows a lot about the industry. He really hates labels and Corporations... Haven't you listened to his most recent shit?

  12. People act like nas is in anyway comparable to lupe. Nas is a foolish man compared to mr fiasco. And has had many run ins with his label. Not to mention all he ever rapped about was being shot at or life in the hood which was what sold in the 90s that's about it. And lasers is better than anything nas put out. It's too dated like nas as a rapper

  16. I love lupe, but lasers is nowhere near anything nas has made (some exceptions)

  17. That was on Def Jam, Columbia didn't bother dude Nas said it himself. He said he respected Mottola and Ienner because they never bothered him about his music. Nas was 8 albums deep before he had major label politics, and that's because he wanted to name an album "Nigger". That was under LA Reid who will fight you or put your album out and not promote you.

    Ignorant comment of the year?

You that Nas is the most influential rapper to Lupe Fiasco right?

First of all there is nothing wrong with rapping about the hood and being shot. It's part of life. You might be fortunate enough to never have to deal with it, but other are not as lucky as you.
Rapping about the the struggles in the hood should never be discouraged. People with their happy lives in suburbs need to know that there are people who are afraid of stepping out their homes in fear of being shot. There is nothing wrong in spreading awareness of the hood(although glorifying the violence in it is bad) just as there is nothing wrong with Lu spread awareness of global issues.
You obviously are more abput subject matter than lyricism when it comes to rapping because to that LASERS is better than anything that Nas has ever out it out is a slap in the face to everyone that enjoys the art of rap. I'm pretty sure Lupe and B.o.B(no disrespect to him) are the only hip-hop artists you listen to. Have fun listening to Born This Way by Lady GaGa and continue bing ignorant for the rest of your life.

  20. #POW Powerful statement...Let's not focus on who's better than who, these rappers are the great ones who choose to represent the people instead of the praises/accolades and glorifications. NAS/LUPE= LEGENDS PERIOD
