Lupe Fiasco's 'Lasers' Headed for #1 Debut!

Things are looking really good! - HDD comes through with the first week sales projection for Lupe's Lasers:

It’s Lupe Fiasco time.

The Chicago-born rapper arrives with his third Atlantic Records studio album, Lasers, which will debut at #1 next week with between 220-240k in sales, the second biggest of the year next to Adele and the best start of his career.

  1. That's great and I am truly happy for him, but can we think about what this means for a second? Was Atlantic right in pushing their agenda on him for higher sales? Is the definition of success high sales or artistic integrity? Ideally, one should be able to achieve both integrity and financial success. Unfortunately, one was sacrificed for the other in this case. Just think about that as you celebrate.

  2. I thought homie did over 300,000?

  3. I'M SOO DAMN PUMPED...but a little scared because I hope this doesn't mean a harsh drop-off. In my eyes I see this album going platinum but not for another month or so....

  4. See this is what happens when you compromise. All he really gave in to was hooks, and a beat or two. This album is an example of what fans can do to a major label, and what a major can do for an artist. Atlantic really went all out with the promo since the protest from having ESPN promote the album, commercials, and using letting Lupe paint them as an enemy in half of the songs. People always want something to believe in (Lupe) + something to go against(Atlantic). This equates to him finally getting the recognition he deserves, and Atlantic selling records in a tough climate for music.

  5. even though lasers wasn’t as good as food and liquor or the cool overall it was a solid album but i thought it was gonna suck way more cuz of atlantic. im glad i copped it. i cant until food and liquor 2!

  6. Its ironic how the whole L.A.S.E.R.S acronym is playing out right before our eyes. With the leak and all the initial hate from his 'so-called' fans, The unconditional love from true fans and new fans, is outshining it and making a bigger star than before.

  8. Lupe: Wow Lasers sold 220k and debuted at #1 the first week. I'm happy.

    *Calls Atlantic Records*

I gave you guys what you want now can I release F&L2 without having to make any compromises artistically?

Atlantic Records: Lasers isn't a success

    Lupe: -_-

  9. i think this is just a projection if you haven't got then go out and buy it. I hope it goes platinum so atlantic can just fuck off after this

  10. @Yawn HAHAHA!XD I can picture them saying some exact shit like that, too. If they do reply with that, Lupe just might commit some offense. :)

  11. I love how people are saying such nice things about Lasers now. It's a great album, even though it may be ranked 3rd out of his 3 albums. Stop hatin and show some L for Lu!

  12. The Cool sold 700k and that album was a concept album!! That's a success story, but I'm very happy for LU.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ^ sold 700k in like 3 years lol. By that logic lasers will sell >1000000 in that same time lol

  14. 2nd highest of the year? That's no surprise since the album was advertised to death. lol

The sales will continue to increase once WINS starts getting played on repeat on radio stations and when the video debuts.

I'm sorry but umm excuse me? wtf I think lupe is the greatest rapper EVER dead or alive. This nigga is MY FUCKING ROLE MODEL. Both f&l and the cool are classics to me, and I visit this blog about ten times a day EVERYDAY since it was first started. But because I think lasers suck i'm not a true fan? wtf you are stupid. I went out to buy this album on the first day even though I knew it sucks. I am a real fan. Not a foolish, dickrider like you that think because somebody doesnt like lasers they aren't a "true fan" thats foolish, retarded, moronic and downright untrue. Lupe has never mad a bad song until this album. Yeah it's good to see lu get bigger but I still think this album sucks its a 3 out 5. Damn atlantic

  17. In reality, while a record company isnt really pushing the album ( lets face it, it might look like theyre promoting it but not that much. theyre too busy promoting Wiz Khalifa) selling 220k-240k is huge! people will look in to it even more, he'll get big, then drop F&L2 while everyone is lookin at him. they'll cop F&L2 will hear it and he'll get even more fans.

  18. The big numbers are attributed to a large number of things. sure it could be the record company pushing the music. it could be that the music is now more bubble gum-my and thus more receptive to everyone. but it is also that it has been 4 years since the cool and in that time lupe has grown a much larger fan base. its as simple as that. unfortunately the record company will look at as their records selling, not lupe's. hopefully a sucessful lasers doesnt affect lupe's control on F&L2..

  19. I'm not a dick rider cuz I like this album you fucking loser. But maybe you are cuz you don't. Running around on the internet talking about how much an album sucks( when the album hasn't came out), is not something a real fan does. Not everybody has the same taste, but bashing an album that has not came out( which a lot of people did) is going to keep potential fans from buying it.
Lupe is not my idol, but i've been a fan since the original F&L leaked and got all the mixtapes so u can miss me with all that " I'm an original fan " bullshit. If you were a real fan u would of kept mouth shut and let others formulate their own opinion because judging by the projections there are about 100k people that disagree.( net gain of first week sales from the cool). smh

  20. Imagine if a bunch of Nas fans came out bitching about how much It Was Written sucked because it wasn't as good as Illmatic.lol That what a lot of fans have been doing with this, only now we have the internet so you can sway others before they get a chance to hear it. If you like this album your're not a stan or a dickrider. Truth of the matter, this record has a more diverse sound than the Cool and F&L, which makes it my appealing to a broader audience. I like this album because its more about him,and not a collection of fictional stories like his previous albums. I also like it because there aren't a bunch of samples(which I feel is hurting hiphop), and ones the used are absolutely neccessary ie " All Black Everything"

  21. NOT THAT GREAT WHO ELSE DROPPIN THIS WEEK NOBODY SO OF COURSE HE GETS NUMBER 1

  22. First off the comment above me is a hater. Who cares nobody else dropped this week. He's number one. Shut up! Waste of a comment.

And to the dude talking about the album sucks. How do you say an album sucks but yet you give it a 3 out of 5? Really dude? Last time I checked a 3 out of 5 constitutes an above average album. Shut up! Lasers!!! ^___^

  23. Hey asshole I'm pretty sure Raekwons album dropped.

  24. Even if hella people dropped this week, he still wouldve sold this much. cuz people still wanted this album over others

  25. If you like it, you like it..if you dont you dont..stop complaining...im happy for Lu, hes been an inspiration to me since he first came out...and at first i didnt really like the album (i still bought it of course), but after numerous plays it really grew on me

  26. Music is an art form and art cannot be judged on the basis of does it "suck" or not. It is entirely based on the listeners interpretation. Saying something sucks or is awesome only means something to those who don't take the time to study art or know any actual means of understanding such material. Art cannot be measured in numbers because it speaks to people on a more emotional scale.

Lasers is great to me because I can play it at home without my mother being offended by the lyrics or worrying about my little sisters reciting the lyrics. It's great that he's trying to push positivity to the masses, rather than his tight following of fans that already have that message seared into their brains. It's a quality album and rightly deserves its number one spot regardless of who is also releasing anything this week. You also have to realize how many rabid fans of his music are buying these in mass quantities and forcing a success. (Not to assume that that's the only reason)

  29. I can't hate on Atlantic to much. I kinda feel like they were giving him tough love because they knew he had the potential to be a big artist, and they might of felt like he was limiting himself into being a niche/underground artist. His message is a lot more important than catering to us hardcore fans. And if rapping to radio friendly beats and hooks is all he had to do to accomplish this, i'm all for it.
