Lupe Fiasco crushed by 'Lasers' Response

After Lasers leaked yesterday, a lot of people been talking about it and a lot of negativity has been spread. Lupe took to Twitter earlier on and spoke his mind:

I never thought Lasers would inspire so much negativity. Reading the comments and reactions is crushing. To all the Lupe fans who protested and petitioned you did a GREAT thing. Don’t let people belittle what u achieved. You forced a massive corporation to bow to the whim of the people. Thats a glorious thing.

Love always shines everytime remember 2 smile has always been a "note2self" the product of trying to figure a reason to keep going.

This morning I buried my brother under a perfect sunshine. It's a beautiful day today. Go out and be beautiful with it. The End. Peace.

  2. What's negativity to a Laser?.............NOTHING!

  3. I haven't listened to every song but from what I've heard it is a GREAT album. It has a different style but that DOES NOT MAKE IT BAD.

This is still Lupe music and I'm buying the album 3/8.

  4. Glade Lupe tweeter that. There is nothing wrong with critiquing and have and opinion but I hope this is squash all the UNGRATEFUL BITCHIN' thats been happening!

  5. it's a sad day when the fans bootleg the album and then neglect the messages lupe's trying to get across. people are jumping all over him, but they forget already that the he didn't have to release the album...he did it for the fans. lupe didn't half ass the album so i don't know where all the negativity is coming from. it has a different feel from the other albums, but the lasers tour and the singles i have heard so far to me is good music. i bet if the album was released as a mixtape that the "fans" would be loving it. i don't know about you guys but i'm a laser...FNF up!!!!keep doing your thing lupe, love you man and your real fans will support you.

  8. People are saying that Lupe changed,
Like he worked this hard to stay the same..

Their trying to compare F&L to Lasers, not even knowing that this album symbolizes so much more.
I'm sure half of the people throwing salt don't even realize what it took to get to this point, therefore they could give a fuck less.

    One thing is for sure:
I heard "I Don't Wanna Care Right Now" live and it was bananasssssssss!
    Like damn.
    So excited for next week.

    LASERSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

  10. The album is good. But not great... it's pretty much the sound I expected.

I know I'm going to sound like a borken record, because this is what's ALWAYS posted - but If he stuck to his soulful "style" from F&L, or his style from The Cool - this negativity wouldn't be around. Fact.

I know he's moved forward as an artist and wants to do different things. But you've got to give the people what they want. It's sad, but true.

  11. This album made a better person and the songs really keeps me going on with life. Lupe Fiasco I love you for the things you do in the world, this album was truly amazing and no one can say its not.
Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile.

    Thank you Lupe Fiasco.

  12. Only 1 track uses a sample, no songs produced by Soundtrakk, and the choruses to songs like State Run Radio and Two Ways are changed from Lupe's live versions.

All the above is not negativity, but FACTS.

So this album, factually, is not what I want from Lupe. I don't like this style, regardless of who does it. He has the right to make this album (or be forced into making it as the case likely is), and I have the right to not enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is anyone not catching or concerned about the "I buried my brother under a perfect sunshine."? I mean damn! Lupe's probably in a horrible condition right now. Lasers stand strong more than ever.

    Nice Jay quote, Luella.

  14. And let me add I already bought the album, so that's why I have the leak.

  15. The album was incredible, I love to hear Lupe on any kind of beat, regardless of it's commercial appeal or style. He didn't dumb down anything, and made a radio-friendly album with relevant and interesting lyrics that I don't feel stupid singing along to. Some of the tracks even have club potential, and that's saying a lot given the message and concept of the album.

People that belittle Lasers are ignorant fools that are stuck in the past, and I got really sad when I read the twitter-response from the greatest MC/MS ever to live. I've played the record for a number of friends of mine (all of which I've made sure will buy at least 5 cd's to make up for the fact that we did something we shouldn't do), and they all love what they hear, bascially a Lupe with a wider appeal than earlier. Lupe is easily the best rapper alive today, and Lasers was an incredibly welcome release, in my book, I've waited forever for the record, and I must say I absolutely love what I hear. Unexpected and unusual, but so very far from bad.

    #LASERS all day, everyday

  16. Keep ya head up Lupe. I know how you feel. It's my brothers 28th birthday today - he died 3 years ago RIP.

As I said, the album is good, not as great as your previous 2. Come back harder next time, give the fans what they want... the 'majority' of YOUR supporters want the soulful music.

    ReplyDelete
  17. To those saying this album has a deeper meaning.. so what if it does? it's just trying to hit the market from a new angle. and even if lupe is being serious about the topics he brought forward on lasers a couple words isn't going to change anything, he needs to lead by example...

    ReplyDelete
  18. By the way, I haven't heard the album yet I'm waiting to buy it

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm genuinely dumbfounded at how it's getting a lot of negativity. The rapping on it is as good as any other album/mixtape of his, and it has more meaning than any of them. Lack of samples on the album is a good thing too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. man people need to remember lupe worked his ass off to try to find a balance between something fans would like and something the label would put out

Favorite song off LASERS is "Letting Go"

Disappointed in the album but that doesn't mean its weak,, Bonus tracks still coming on the pre-ordered versions... March 8th,, so hold tight & This album is still better than most albums released the past 3yrs

We just got lupe on such a high pedestal, take Lasers for what it is & show some Love

    ReplyDelete
  26. R.I.P lupe's bro. I LOVE the album and i only listened to "All Black Everything" and "I dont wanna care right now". Idk why people are saying its a "Bad" album cause it's not. I HOPE SCREAM IS A BONUS TRACK!! and i heard "State Run Radio" isn't on the album?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Truthfully, I like the album, I think it came out dope. Even the two songs that I really wasn't feeling, ended up growing on me.

Don't be so quick to dismiss it, and if you TRULY don't like it, then just go listen to his old stuff instead. Problem solved!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's as simple as this: I don't like listening to poppy beats. Same way classical music doesn't catch my ear, or heavy metal doesn't attract me.

It's to the point where the production takes away from his lyrics. I saw 3 lupe shows in the past few months, and the live performances actually had emotion. The album tracks are so much worse, the beats distract from his verses, ad they kill any potential the songs might have.

  30. Does anyone know what happened to his brother?

    ReplyDelete
  31. ive heard the whole album.and im still going to buy the album.but you can tell the album is heavily influenced by atlantic.i think the genuine negativity is from genuine lupe fans who are disappointed by the product.i was at the protest and we didnt protest for an album just to come out,we protested for an artist to perform his art without compromise.i understand that he has to make money and obviously had to compromise with the label to get the album out.but i didnt protest for an atlantic records ft. lupe album.even lupe said he didnt like the process of the album and genuinely likes only 4 songs.i wish he can release the original track listed songs so we can see what Lasers was suppose to be.cuz if you listen to the original manifesto, this album does not convey that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ok to me... i've never been a person to judge a lupe song on the first listen. they're too complex to decipher all at once. so thats what i'm going to take it as. sure the poppy beats may be distracting at first but by the 15th listen or so the message rings loud and clear. lupe gets better with time.. .

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think that people are disappointed because some of the tracks (in particular the first half) were over produced or was reminiscent of mainstream hip hop.

I think they just had a quick listen and equated that with it being a bad album.

But having listened to the leak (preordered and paid for premium lasers pack already), his lyrical prowess is still unparalleled and the message is still there.

My only complaint was that some tracks were indeed over produced and kind of distracting me from his verses.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nobody was looking for his "old album". We were looking for good music that Lupe wanted to put out. This album had more attention on it than any other album other than Detox. He needed to bring it, and he didn't. RIP to his brother though, and I hope God blesses his entire family through this time.

  37. If you make a wack album, then you make a wack album..Common made Electric Circus which blows hard, but he was trying something different. After so much backlash from his core fanbase he went back to making the heat. Change ain't always for the better, but I blame Atlantic for this nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This album he made for the fans but also for him. He said Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile is also a personal note. This is a man who wanted to throw it all away and his life but found something to keep going in music. Think of how he feels by all the negativity that is coming from something that potentially saved this man’s life. I bought the deluxe pack and itunes pass because Lupe’s words have made an impact. Even if they aren’t super fiasco lyrical all the time… Let’s help Lupe go platinum and keep music with a message going in this world full of non-sense…

    ReplyDelete
  39. Electric Circus was dope imo. I like this electro stuff

  40. BOYCOTT lasers!!!!! Lets be real lupe fans and not have someone spoon feed us shit and have us like it jus cuz it has lupes name on it!!! BOYCOTT!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love Lupe's music, and I like the message and themes from Lasers, but the sound of the album is not up to the same quality as his other work. Here's to FL2 and TGARA

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think people are upset about this album not being like his first two records. Remember how diverse those songs are: Superstar, Go Baby, Fighters, Goodbye, etc. These are all very different songs that are great. For me, if anything I think the hooks and music is mediocre as hell, so even if Lupe's lyrics were as good (which I don't think they are) the songs would still be much worse than on the first two records.

    ReplyDelete
  43. lots of hatred out there. seriously, you people need to
    1. relax
    2. grow up

if you don't like it (i find 7 songs absolutely perfect) then stop complaining and start rapping yourself and do a better job.

  44. as for the "soulful music"

all black everything is plenty soulful and i dont even like that song.

letting go, til i get there, never forget you, beautiful lasers, words i never said, and the show goes on can hang w/ any song lupe's done. if you don't like the first verse of break the chain, you dont have a pulse.

  45. To the guy 3 post above tgara is f&l 2 it's f&l 2: tgara.

And the fans are mad not because of the lyrics but because of the sound of the album the beats sound mainstream and all of that autotune. I knew what to expect so I'm not mad but I am a lil dissapointed.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Really I wouldnt even have a problem with the mainstream beats if the hooks weren't autotuned. Tsgo grew on me. I like it now and I didn't like the beat but if the chorus was autotuned I would still hate it. So my biggest problem with the albums is the hooks.... cuz I hate autotune but I'll get over it I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  47. for the "fans" who say they like lupe no matter what, go read the lupe interview for complex magazine.i like lupe no matter what(as a person/artist),but this album has little to do with lupe..and thats clear when their are no soundtrack produced songs.blind following isnt healthy to the cause.FNF up!

    ReplyDelete
  48. ^The first half of the cd did indeed have alot of mainstream beats that overshadowed his versework. That I did not care for.

As for autotune, I don't mind it as long as it is not used in place of substance. There is substance here. But I can understand how one equates autotune for bad hip hop

    ReplyDelete
  49. we all knew that lu had to make some pretty big compromises for this album to be released. he let go of his ego and made songs that he wouldn't normally have so the we the fans would get what we petitioned and protested for. we worked so damn hard to push atlantic to release the album and lupe gave up so much to give it to us. all the negativity is unwarranted in my opinion.

with that said i haven't heard the whole album because i refuse to listen to leaks, especially from an artist i love and respect as much as lupe. so i've only heard the itunes pass tracks. he did the best he could with what the label shoved down his throat. and its dope from what i've heard. i agree with what someone said about overproduction on the trey songz joint. the beat is hella distracting. "coming up" and is dope as shit tho. and "never forget you" might be one of my favorite lupe songs ever.

good riddance to all the fair weather fans.

  50. I love all the complainers. It was lasers or no music at all, folks. Buy lasers and be happy with it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well said two posts above.

If this allows atlantic to give free reign over f&l2 then I'll buy multiple copies so we can see his true masterpiece and potential.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Were u people honestly expecting it to sound like F & L and the cool? Have u not been paying attention to why it took so long to get released?

    ReplyDelete
  53. The album is good, not great. I love 5 or six tracks instantly and I'm sure more will grow on me.
But I'm sure we can all agree that we would most likely be happier with the album Lu originally turned into Atlantic.
I am praying we get bonus tracks and the original version of the album leaks. I'm really really praying it leaks.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I find it incredible that people in these comments are praising the album as they are. Even saying its "classic" or comparing to the 1st two albums.

I've been a Lupe fan since my friend from Chi put me on to his mixtapes before F&L. This album is OK. There has definitely been better albums in the past couple of years and is far away from his first two albums.

I wasn't expecting much from the album knowing that Atlantic was going to have it's hands in it.

There are really only 2 or 3 tracks I can say Lupe sounds like he put effort/heart in to.

I give the album 3/5 mics on the first listen through

    ReplyDelete
  55. The album was bad. Most of the "club" poppy song don't even have anything to do with the Lasers manifesto. You can CLEARLY see how Atlantic manipulated the album. I don't blame Lupe, but a wack album is a wack album for ANY artist, so sorry Lu.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Truly sorry to hear about his brother.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I guess three consecutive classics was asking too much?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Imma huge Common fan Sean, but I hate Electric Circus. Im trying to find the article, but Common said he's not that crazy about EC either, but he was feeling the way Electric Circus sounded at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I want folks to stop saying someone isn't a real fan if they don't like everything the artist makes. If folks don't like the sound of this album, then so be it. It doesn't make them any less of a fan, and Lupe shouldn't expect everyone to like the album no matter what the manifesto is. People have the right to voice their opinions, you gotta take the good with the bad as the late Stack Bundles would say.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm sorry for your loss Lupe, but the album is still bad. Nothing is going to change that. We just missed the old Lupe, that is all. Not that is your fault , of course.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I just hope Atlantic is going to let him do his thing for now on. We needed this to be classic, as folks look to Lupe to be that dude. Fuck Atlantic Records as a staff, a record label, and motherfuckin crew, if you wanna be down with Atlantic Records then fuck you to....

    ReplyDelete
  62. No its not they disabled the enabler of all good hip hop music. I just hope he doesn't just give in and continue to make this kind of music. Man go back and listen to He Say She Say, Sunshine, Kick Push 1&2, The Cool, American Terrorist. Then listen to Go Go Gadget Flow, Paris, Tokyo, Gold Watch, Superstar, The Coolest, The Die....Man that music is timeless.....This is nonsense...Even when Lu is kickin knowledge the beat is garbage, or the hook is garbage. Only a few songs work.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ^^^There is no such thing as "old Lupe" he's been the same as always, situations have changed towards him. He's being who he is, music for his fans.

  66. All I have to say is the people who actually LISTEN to the album arent your true fan anyway! I've been a fan of this man since 06 and I can honestly say that "All black everying" is my ALL TIME favorite Lupe song. I've pretty much heard everything that man has created and I never thought he could have mastered a song better then American Terrorist. I haven't listened to the album yet because I'm a TRUE FAN!!! So, Lupe... don't pay attention to the negativety now...because the ppl who are spreading those negative responses aren't your true fans! I will discover if I like or dislike the album MARCH 8th!

    LASERS!!!!!
    Peace & blessing yall :)

what is that suppose to mean? just because I've been a fan since 06 Im not a TRUE FAN!?

    SHUT UP AND FALLL BACK!

    ReplyDelete
  69. There is one song on Lasers that is terrible in my eyes (Out of my Head) and one that is mediocre (I Don't Wanna Care Right Now), besides those two, every other song is on par with what Lupe's been putting out his entire career. Sure he sounds more mainstream, but I am so impressed with the way he was able to balance the lyricism we're used to with the hooks and beats the label manufactured for him. I was skeptical at first about the quality of Lasers, but after listening to it for a day, it really grew on me and I can truly say this is a great album, and it exceeded my previous expectations which were pretty low considering Lupe said himself the album didn't turn out how he wanted. So everyone needs to relax, there's never gonna be another Food and Liquor, because quite frankly that was one of the best rap albums ever, and if you compare Lupe's work to F&L every time you're probably gonna be disappointed every time. Enjoy Lasers because Lupe worked too damn hard for us to throw it to the side like we are right now.

Also I am truly sincerely sorry for his loss. May Allah enter his brother into the gates of paradise, Ameen

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't like this album, I've said it before ans I'll say it again. It felt like Atlantic Records Spit in all the people who protested face, but at the end of the day I'm sill a Lupe Fan until the end and will be in line for this album along with my copy of Pokemon Black

    ReplyDelete
  71. I was sooo crushed by the album. I've listened to it over and over hoping I could feel it more. Lupe is still my fav artist. I've already preordered the album and plan to buy two hard copies, but I'm doing it strictly to support Lu. 3 years to hear this, as a dedicated fan I'm tooo hurt. They murdered state run radio.

    ReplyDelete
  72. ^Woah that's BS. Matter of fact your entire post his BS except the ending regarding Lu's brother. This isn't a great album, this surely isn't on par with Lu's previous efforts(that's insane that you could type that), and Food & Liquor is good, but the leaked version was way better.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yeah they killed State Run Radio. I mean, Bodyparts......

    ReplyDelete
  74. Bodyparts....HAHAHAHAH..I gonna listen to SLR right now.

    ReplyDelete
  75. SLR...dang that was nice. Lasers not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  76. ^All Black Everything isn't as good as American Terrorist. Santos killed that hook with Sarah Green adding her vocals that shit was magnificent. Prolyfic killed the beat, Lu murked the lyrics. While All Black Everything is nice, its hook is to simple, and he couldve used Santos or GemStones on it.

    ReplyDelete
  77. SLR was bomb, and I'm ready for that Ferrari Cart.

  78. Somebody twitter or facebook GemStones...We need that dude back in the fold. I listen to "We On" about 5 times a month.

Have you heard All Black Everything? Letting Go? Till I Get There? State Run Radio? Coming Up is a song he wrote for his sisters... Take the beat out, listen to his words and this is the same Lupe folks. If you were expecting him to get on a Food and Liquor flow with the beats the label threw at him, you're insane. From that standpoint, this EFFORT is on par with most of Lupe's previous. It's not as deep as The Cool, and not as soulful and lyrical as F&L, but it's as good as you're gonna get in today's hip hop industry.

    ReplyDelete
  81. "We On" was a classic, Jaguar Skills killed that Deniece Williams sample. As a producer myself, I couldn't of flipped that "Silly" sample like that. I mean its perfect. MDMA(Pooh Bear) killed the hook. I love that song.

Those songs suck...I mean are you serious. They killed State Run Radio. Massacred that record. Till Get There the hook is weak as hell. A four year could've wrote that. Artist of Lupe's ilk still release great music in "today's" industry. Sadly this isn't one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. we (the fans) begged Lu and Atalantic for an album, so i cant complain too much.. but im still kind of disappointed that so much compromise had to go down.

What label is Saigon on? he wouldn't compromise, left Atlantic and then released a beast in Greatest Story Never Told. sure the promotion for it was next to non-existent, but Lu's established and loyal fanbase probably accounts for like 85% of his sales anyways.

with that said, Lasers has a couple of mediocre songs (i'm looking at you, IDWCRN, Out of my head, and SRR's hook) and as a whole, it's not on par with any of his previous stuff, but it's still better than pretty much all other major record label "hip hop" releases. so go out and SUPPORT.

    p.s. i want scream.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Dang I just listened to "We On". That should be released somewhere. Listen to the wordplay and the exchanges between Lu and Gemini. Man that record is hard.

    ReplyDelete
  85. We On doesn't get enough love.

    ReplyDelete
  86. All the songs Lu and Gemini did together were on fire. I think Lu misses Gem more than any of us may know.

Really? Who can you name that is signed to a major label that is putting out a better product than Lasers? Blu is the only artist I can think of as of now. All I'm saying is, don't dismiss Lasers as an average album when going into it most of us had our minds made up that it was going to suck. I know that's how I was. The songs I named do not suck, I know its opinion-based but come on really? All Black Everything sucked to you? State Run Radio had a better hook in the live performances but the lyricism is still there, Till I Get There is also heavy on the lyricism. As I said before, try to look past the label manufactured hooks and beats, Soundtrakk was probably released by Atlantic for not sounding stupid enough.

    ReplyDelete
  93. the only reason i was a little disappointed was because before all the leaks i thought Lasers was going to be on par with Kanye's MBDTF.

but you would be joking urself if you thought there werent going to be at least a few songs that didnt have heavy influences from Atlantic. even saying that the rest of the album is pretty sick, Beautiful Lasers could easily be on one of his previous albums. One thing i know, regardless the song Lu will kill it in a live performance

I'll take Dark Fantasy over this anyday. Damien Marley and Nas, all that's better. I mean, I don't feel the same as you do about this album. I love Lu as much as anybody, but I can't defend this product. It sucks to me. Atlantic raped this album no vaseline. Damn, I gonna do like Jay said and go listen to the old albums.

  95. Glad folks up here mentioning "We On" That track was way underrated.

    ReplyDelete
  96. We need Lu and GemStones to reunite, cause these hooks on Lasers are hellawack.

Your opinion and your entitled to it, I felt just as bad about this album yesterday I'm telling you, but the more I listen to it the more I think it's not so bad at all.

I can only pray Lupe doesn't eventually become what Jay did

  98. at least he was able to get a few classic Lu-type songs on this track, and he didnt allow Atlantic bust their gay-ass disneyesque load all over his entire ablum like that faggot BOB. speaking of BOB

speaking of which "I'll crash that fuckin' airplane that that faggot nigga B.o.B is in
And stab Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus"

    ^great video

  99. B.o.B: No Genre mixtape (his own release) > The Adventures of Bobby Ray (Atlantic Records)

Lupe: Friend of the People mixtape (his own release) > "LASERS" (Atlantic Records)

    That is all..
    Peace!

  100. sounds like lupe is bout to kill him self when he says "the end" peace

  101. LASERS is Lupe's worst album. Does anyone disagree with me?

LASERS is ok when comparing it to other artist's album. We all know what Lu can do. LASERS is certainly not the best Lu has to offer so expect people to be upset.

If you like LASERS that's fine, but don't go around making people feel like idiots for being disappointed with LASERS.

I personally am disappointed with LASERS, but I don't hate the album. I know Lu said the album would be simple and more popular that's why I don't hate LASERS.

I was actually all for LASERS being a bit mainstream friendly so that more people can be exposed to Lu, but when you realize that you hardly have any of the new songs from your favorite rapper's new album in your ipod that kinda of sucks.

I'll by the album, but I hope Lupe the Killer comes back for FOTP and F&L2.

  108. ^^^ Just read the article you posted, couldn't agree w/ you more. Awesome post

    ReplyDelete
  109. I don't really feel the need to argue over a "best" list. Every list is going to be different as each song affects people differently. However, I want to address Lupe's very sad response.

I know that I can only speak for myself but I love the fact that Lupe Fiasco is branching out and trying new things. Wasalu is a multi-dimensional person (just like everyone) I always look forward to seeing new sides of Wasalu through his character of Lupe Fiasco. He has always been inspiring whether it's through his work or through the message that is given in putting out his work. Lasers is an album that I already respect. I haven't heard all of it yet which is why I hesitate to say that I like it but I do like the songs that I've received with the itunes pass. Even songs like "Show Goes On", which Lupe always seems to talk about as if the song brings up bad memories (understandably), inspire me. I almost had tears during the second verse. I find it amazing that he was able to take such a horrible situation of having his label straight up GIVE HIM a beat and then straight up TELL HIM WHAT TO RAP ABOUT and turn it into such an uplifting song that is lyrically very unique when compared to 90% of the music on the radio right now. I know that some of my friends only listen to music on the radio and the simple fact that it's on the radio is inspiring. It uplifts me and makes me think that it IS possible to make a difference in the world even if heavier songs like "Hurt Me Soul" aren't known by many radio listeners.

    Lupe,
I just want to assure you that your efforts are making a very positive effect on my life. I don't always agree with everything you say but it is partially because of you that I have become interested in social justice. It is, in part, thanks to you that I strive to be more well read so that I can say, with reason, why I think Limbaugh is a racist or why I seriously question the existence of the illuminati or that 9/11 is part of a large cover-up. Whether I agree with you or not, your words and perspective are in my head. I know that love always shines and I will try my best to remember to smile. Please don't don't lose heart.

    peace and much love always

  110. I suppose some of the songs will have to grow on some fans, but Lupe's fans are really loyal so he shouldn't worry too much, just take it with a grain of salt because people were expecting sooo much after the various delays and LupEND, TGARA and eventually LASERS. I'm going to wait to hear the whole album before I really critique the album. I mean some of the snippets on itunes (Out of my head and Coming up) are a little underwhelming, but everything so far is pretty epic.
I mean i skipped like 2 tracks on Cudi's first album too and I think Kanye's graduation had one i'd skip sooo

i kinda forgot what i was talking about, i'm sure the album will still be classic.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Dude keep it real in the complex article.

  112. fuck everyone that talked shit about this album!! i love you lupe and i cant wait to get the album!!! 7 more days! WEARELASERS

    ReplyDelete
  113. i already posted before... but i just wanted to add that although i love "we on" i don't foresee Gemstones ever coming back to making a traditional hip hop album. i would love it if he would work with lupe but right now... it seems like he'd be more likely to work with lecrae...

gemstones went Christian... i'm not saying that that's a good or bad thing but it's just the way it is right now...

  114. "And then there are records you literally had nothing to do with. That was a part of the compromise. Compromise doesn’t mean everybody is going to be happy, it’s just we’re going to do the best thing we can. The best thing for both parties is for this album to come out."

    ReplyDelete
  115. "They say attention's all about how you pair things..."

"Could not do it just with brains,so I had to you use some bling"

"Sneak my message to the masses you can call it chocolate rain"

I'm starting to feel like a lot of Lupe fans don't actually listen to his lyrics cause he said exactly what this album would be in his lines and in interviews. In the worst case,at least you got "Words i Never Said", and "All Black Everything"(which IMHO is his best song to date.

Bottom line, to get a message like the 'Lasers manifesto' out, You gotta sneak it through POP(Bruce Springsteen) or mix in with the gangsta thing(2pac- and you saw how that went)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Lupe, I really enjoyed the album, it was a switch up on your style and you really did do the popular style of your music in your own way. Don't let them get to you Lu, the true fans are still around

    ReplyDelete
  117. I haven't listened to the entire album. Faithfully waiting for my preorder to arrive before I do. (: But all of my friends who have listened to the leaks loved it. I'm shocked that there was negative response, and disappointed by how some fans reacted. ): Whether or not this album lives up to his old stuff doesn't matter. Every Lupe song is good to me, and no this is not because I'm Lupe biased. Even if he didn't have the full creative liberties to do what he wants, I can still feel the energy, emotion, and work he put into every production. Lupe's worse is probably a lot better than most people's best. I can't wait until my LASERS package arrives. (:

    ReplyDelete
  118. What we really need is an acapella version of this album, them loud ass beats is way over his lyrics and take the hooks away or just remove the auto-tune. Do it like Aesop Rock's Make your own Bazooka Tooth. I'd download someones own underground beats over this album, bet it'll make it great project and a better album.

Cause right now this is Lupe's Nastradamus, and everyone knows that's not a good thing

    ReplyDelete
  119. I listen to the snippets & I think lyrically he still is a force to be reckoning with. I don't like a lot of Pop albums, but if Lupe is making positive music from it I will definitely listen. I will support Lupe because he he's the one that change my life with music. I used to listen to Wayne & Boosie alot and when I first heard Lupe I thought to myself like wow he really is a masterpiece with his words. From then out I got into more underground music & alot of good artist like Common & Kweli. What i'm trying to say is that even though Lupe album may not be his album as the first two was he still has the positive message and ain't nothing eer wrong with that. I'm sorry to revamp like that, but I just want everybody to know how much of a inspiration he been towards me. I always will support his music because he the only one artist that ever gave me messages that uplift my spirits. Let's support Lupe seriously. He is a the artist that made a big change in hip-hop as soon as he walk in the door. Leggo's Lasers!

    ReplyDelete
  121. "my hearts been broke for a while, yours been the one keeping me alive"

keep that in the back of your head when you guys are bashing this album so hard. the reason the album sounds the way it does is because we protested for it. lupe was forced to compromise a lot on this album in order for it to be delivered to us. i've pre ordered the album 3 times (twice from lupefiasco.com so i could get 2 shirts and from itunes) and i will buy it in stores multiple times.

the album means so much more than just the music. its symbolic. its a victory for the underdog. for the people. the manifesto really changed how i look at the world. dont lose sight of the reason why we petitioned and protested for this albums release. and dont lose sight of the fact of what lupe had to give up to please everyone (or at least try to)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Lupe has the #1 top hip-hop & Rap CD in Jet magazine :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. I heard the leak today at my friends house, and my only complaints are the autotuned hooks and the way State Run Radio was butchered. But there are still gems on the album. My favorites being: Never forget You, The Show Goes On, Til I Get There, and All Black Everything. And I got the preorder coming soon.

    ReplyDelete
  124. But any of us Lupe fans who were following the album new what we were in for. I just didn't want to believe it. So now I'm stuck wandering if I still want this to be a success or will the arrogant execs at Atlantic learn that they suck at making music if this album flops. They might just have such an ego that they think that lupe is the reason why it wasn't a hit or something. But fuck it, I already paid.

    ReplyDelete
  125. i love the album.. if ur a tru lupe fan u can distinguish between the songs he chose to put and the songs Atlantic chose.. its an uplifting album . its his most personal album as well.. we should thank em for sharing things like that ..

    ReplyDelete
  126. Speaking as a lupe fan, how does buying this album in the store equal supporting him? it's money for the label and it would just validate all the shit they did. if the album's a massive flop that would be a message to atlantic and lupe, wouldn't it? the lasers manifesto says this explicitly - we want an end to commercialized pop crap. for the most part, that's what this album is.

    don't support it.

    ReplyDelete
  127. What the manifesto actually says is "we want substance in place of popularity" you're deaf if you think this album lacks substance.

    ReplyDelete
  128. but it's substance intertwined with popularity, so really he's not staying true to his word

    ReplyDelete
  129. substance is found in words and actions. the pop style of the beats doesnt contradict the substance of lupe's lyrics nor does it contradict the manifesto. the popularity he's talking about is the bullshit that dominates the radio and mtv. the songs that talk about nothing and/or glamorize negativity. the shit thats popular just because it sounds good not because it has a good message behind it. lupe told us a long time ago that the album was going to sound more popular.

    ReplyDelete
  130. "Even though its difficult to be human, lets not turn into monsters instead"

The man just lost his brother and his advice to you is be thankful that you even have the breath to criticise rap albums, he tried his best for you and fought for your cause then you turn around and bash him for standing up for you?, what do you think compromise means?, it means he did things he didn't want to do so that the protests could mean something-

    "see with your heart"

    ReplyDelete
  131. Anyone Know were i can get one them lasers shirts? Just the shirt seperate?

    ReplyDelete
  132. I haven't heard the record yet but if it's as heavily influenced by atlantic as everyone is making a seem maybe we should start a second petition. A petition for "Lupe Fiasco's LASERS" not "atlantic records' lasers." the uncompromised version of the album with lupe doing what he does best. a demand for them to give us the album as it was intended to be. with the tracks that were scrapped or brand new ones whichever lupe wants to do. it worked the first time what's the harm in trying it again. we didn't protest for a watered down version of LASERS. if we mobilize the way we did to get the album released in the first place we might be able to make this happen.

Generation LASERS transform and roll out!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Honestly, once Lupe said that LASERS was going to be a semi-POP album....I knew it was going to get backlash once it was released. Because 1)The fans are sooo in love with the whole 'The Cool' trilogy and 2) alot of niggas dont get him in the first place(just ask my bro, lol, smh).

My opinion, I must say as a fan I was not too fond of him stating that he was going to go POP/radio. But regardless I was going to support and see what Lu would have to offer in the POP/radio world. So far, I like the songs that I have heard from him. I refuse to listen to the leak....that would spoil the whole experience of purchasing the CD and opening and reading the credits as I listen to it. I think that is wrong with people today. They don't listen to music like that any more. BTW, Kanye dealt with a similar thing with 808. I loved that album but people(some fans & Hip-Hop heads) scartched their heads questioning his rap credability. But than he shut them down with Dark Fanatsy. While Lupe is not as big as 'Ye, I can see him going throgh the same thing. He is going to have fans and common niggas scracthing their heads with LASERS, but than he is going to shut it down with F&L II...That is my hope.

I pity his hurt feelings. I know he went through alot to have it release with the label and who know what other label politics goes along with these nasty reviews. The label may justify these negative responses as them being right on how LASERS should not have been released. All that I ask for Lupe is to practice what he preaches! We're not LOSERS were LASERSSSSS! That message alone is not meant for everyone, especially the staus quo. You can't go to war and expoect to not lose some and not get scars in the process. As long as those positive messages and creativity is in play...I will forever be down! And that's with Lupe, Kanye, and Pharrell...whether they do anything with CRS doesn't matter to me. I love all of them the same as individuals. You gotta give props to a Black men who not afraid to express themselves outside of what other expect them! Kanye said it best in his recent freestyle. There may be haters around but Love always outshine that babe.BOOM--Just threw a LOVEBOMB!!!!!

    We LASERS point blank period!

    ReplyDelete
  134. We knew the album was gonna be more pop, but dang this is pathetic. What's up with the autotune, and all those annoying ass beats? The hooks are way to simple, and there not performed well. This album is just a disappointment and I expected it to be bad. Its just way worse than I ever conceive it being.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Why All the hate i've heard the album and like every single song the lyrics are great and the hooks are good too, Beautiful Lasers in my opinion is the greatest song of all time

  137. pisses me off they butcher beautiful lasers state run radio and coming up

    ReplyDelete
  138. i think we all need to quit trying to convince other people of our opinion about the album. if you like it cool, if not then its not for you. but one thing that we all need to acknowledge is the fact that the majority of the songs we're manufactured by Atlantic 100%. the beats, the hooks, and even what Lupe is rapping about. its what he HAD to do in order for this album to be released. he probably would have never done those songs if we didnt protest for the albums release. he did this for us. he put the feelings he had for this project aside because of all the love and support he got from his fans. so regardless of the finished project i think that its important that we support Lupe so that everything leading up to the album wasn't in vain.

    ReplyDelete
  139. ^^^ Yes but wasn't the album done before the protest?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Haven't heard the album except for the tracks that come with the itunes pass, but just by hearing those few songs my mind is filled with thought provoking lyrics.

Apparently people are paying more attention to how the album is suppose to appeal to a broader audience. Why do people ignore lyrical content? Lupe is a master of his craft, and no on can tell him how to do it better than himself. Simple minded people send shots, without understanding the masterful skill it took to create radio friendly music but still have the controversial lyrics and underlying message of forget the BS and be yourself. *LASERS* IS BOTTOMLINE REVOLUTIONARY TO HIPHOP. And i personally appreciate any artist willing to cross boundaries, an mix it up a little. ITS ART & ITS BEAUTIFUL. God bless it all. And i will pray for Lupe an his family, for their loss.

LOVE ALWAYS SHINES EVERYTIME REMEMBER to SMILE.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Lasers is Lupe's best album because it's life imitating art. The protest and everything that went on behind the scenes, and Lupe continueing to fight that good fight in spite of all the negativity going on around him is truly inspirational. Lasers reflects that struggle. That is why Lasers is Lupe's best album. Keep on fighting the good fight Lupe. Keep talking to these kids, speaking out against injustices and trying to make this world a better place. I love you Lupe.

The only thing that makes me wanna listen to the album again is that i know lupe is deeper than the first listen :-) but nothing inherent in the album itself makes me wanna go through it again.. Much love to lupe, and God.bless, but this album just doesn't do it for me.. Im not gonna force it to just because im a fan.. I don't love his music because im a fan, im a fan because i love his music, so till the next album ill just have to enjoy his old stuff.. But thats just me personally..
