B.o.B says that he'll appear on Lupe Fiasco's Lasers

Y'all probably remember the studio footage of Lupe x B.o.B which was put up on YouTube a while ago...if not, click HERE and HERE.

There were some discussions going on if they worked on stuff for B.o.B's album or Lupe's album or maybe something else...well, during an interview with 101.5 JamZ in Phoenix, B.o.B just recently confirmed that he'll be featured on a track on Lupe's upcoming album "Lasers." He also said that Lupe produced the track.

Thanks to for the info

Matthew Santos - GWHH Interview

Matthew: I want to be an artist that people won't know what to expect from next, but they can expect that it's going to be quality.

I'm not a niche artist that writes and sings the same kind of songs over and over again, and I think that's what sets me apart from a lot of other singer/songwriters.

Throwback: Lupe Fiasco in XXL Mag - 2006

I wrote the article down for you...in case you can't read if from the scan 'cause the text is too small:

If not weird, then Lupe Fiasco is definitely atypical. This 23-year old muslim rap phenomenon from Chicago is into skateboarding, custom kicks, Japanese animation and gourmet food as much as he's into hip-hop. Oh yeah, Kanye West and Jay-Z are his homeboys, too.

You see, back when they thought backpacks would hurt the Roc-before 'Ye got the shit to pop-Lupe was recruited by Roc-A-Fella.

After a 2001 impromptu audition for Jay-Z at a Chicago hotel, Lupe (born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco) was invited, not only to join hip-hop's Prudential, but inside the god MC's sacred space. "He's givin' me clothes out of his closet. Givin' me Gucci jeans, and I'm thinkin', I'm at Jay-Z's house. I'm at Jay-Z's house!" Lupe remembers.

Ultimately, Lupe chose not to sign, but build his own company, 1st and 15th, instead. When business partner Charles "Chill" Patton was forced to do a 14-month bid in the middle of creating Lupe's debut, Food & Liquor, Jigga stepped in. Says Fiasco: "We went to go see Jay and asked, ' Yo, could you help us?" Instead of simply making a few phone calls, Jay met with then Arista head LA Reid and offered to executive produce the upstart's album.

Though Food & Liquor has a new home on 1st and 15th/Atlantic Records, Mr. Carter is still it's executive producer. And Lupe's buzz has become a roar after scoring a 10 on "Touch the Sky" on West's Late Registration. "[Kanye & I] always had a relationship, explains Fiasco. "We was actually tryin' to get 'Ye signed before he was with Roc-A-Fella. When I did my showcase for Arista, 'Ye was sittin' on the couch in LA Reid's office. Right after our showcase, I was like, "What y'all wanna do with Kanye?" One good turn deserves another.

Now Lupe is poised to earn the underground respect and mainstream acceptance of fellow Chica-go-getters like Common and Twista. "I took the Kanye look as this is the biggest mixtape look ever," he says "That's the look that got the world's attention." And ain't nothing weird about that.

A list of Lupe things that we probably won't get to see/hear/wear

Canceled Concert: SUNY Oneonta Students Are Disappointed

Jason left this in the comments: So I'm one of your biggest fans and me and my boy were excited that we FINALLY booked you to perform at our college at SUNY Oneonta. We had been working hard to negotiate a contract, we vouched for you when other members of our executive board thought that you coming here would result in an unsuccessful concert.

We were off the wall hearing that you would love to perform here and that the deal went through. We were preparing hard, we (me and my boy) were doing our own promotions, designing our own flyers, website and everything. We had people excited, not just from our school but from other cities and even states.

People were proud that FINALLY Oneonta was getting something different for a change instead of the usual alternative rock and the pissy poor Young Joc performance few years back. Then, we hear you backed out on us to go mountain climbing. I swear I did not sleep last nite after hearing that.

The point is, we are disappointed, all that hard work and excitement went out the window. Honestly, me and my boy love your music but we're a lil hurt. As fans, we are disappointed, we hope for the best in your future success however.
____________

I didn't hear that the show was canceled until today...but now it seems like Lupe will go on that planned Mount Kilimanjaro climb with Kenna and Justin in September...this could also affect the other performance he was scheduled to do in NY at Governors Island...on one side I can understand that people are disappointed, especially 'cause they put so much time and effort into it but on the other...Lupe is doing this climb for a good cause and (no disrespect, but) I think it's more important than this concert...besides that, I'm sure that most of the people @ SUNY who are interested to see Lupe perform will be able to attend another one of his shows in NY or somewhere close.

Update via La Bamba: Lupe tried to reschedule with the school but it wasn't possible. Also the show on Sept 11th on Governor's Island got moved to the 18th.

Update 2:...the Governor's Island show is actually on September 19th now and it seems like Oneonta is back on, too!

Interview: Matthew Santos talks about his new album

Ajay182 from Overrating the Underrated just recently did an interview with Matthew Santos. Here's the part where Matthew talked about his upcoming album:

OTU: How is the new album coming along? What can fans expect from the album?

Matthew: The new album is almost finished! This album is a bit more ambitious than previous works because it touches on musical ideas that I’ve never explored before. I was extremely involved with the production process so it gave me a chance to experiment with some things.

There are epic rock songs like “Wide Eyed Fire Fly” and “On the Radio” which comment on my experience with mainstream music psychology and the effect that it has on an artist. Then there are songs like “Born To Do” which mix elements of hip/hop production and pop/rock/breakbeat with a message of taking responsibility of our unique gifts and talents. Then there are some ballads, some folk songs, some cinematic, orchestral shit. We also take you to church with a gospel choir in “Death, Sex, and Regret”.

The album may be seen by some as a bit schizophrenic as far as range of genre, but when it comes down to it, it’s all soul music to me. Besides, I feel that nowadays there is more emphasis on the “single-song” then the “total-album” so this gives music lovers of different creeds a chance to enjoy at least some of our music, if not all of it, and hopefully people are open enough to see the art in all of it.

A LupEND Blog Interview with Le Messie (of FALSE)

I just recently had the chance to do an interview with Le Messie who's the Creative Director and founder of the world famous street fashion label FALSE.

I asked him about the new Better Of Dead brand, upcoming projects, his music/influences, his work with Lupe and of course...Japanese Cartoon. Check it out below!

LupEND Blog: You just launched a new collection of works for the Better Of Dead brand entitled Jacob the Murderer, what inspired you to create this line?

Le Messie: Yes, it’s one of our boldest lines to begin with. The Better Off Dead brand was presented because of its ability to speak its mind in bolder shapes and messages. The collection is an ongoing narration to feelings of the anarchist in our society and culture.

LupEND Blog:
This time you also added a special selection of tees for females to your collection. Will there be more of that in the future, maybe even a collection only for girls?

Le Messie:
The response has been very good so we will definitely keep hand-screening on various female cuts. Perhaps a female only collection might arise in the future. The design aesthetics for the brand is very unisex and work both ways perfectly.

LupEND Blog: What's next for FALSE? Are there gonna be more Better Of Dead releases maybe another collabo with Lupe Fiasco? I know that there's a project called FALSE Stasher which is supposed to launch this fall...can you tell us a bit about it?

Le Messie: We have an array of things coming up from a new project called “FALSEYES” to “Stashers by FALSE” to various musical excerpts and collaborations. Unfortunately I cannot go into depth for now but I promise as long as you are on our FALSE network you will see them come to fruition very soon.

LupEND Blog: You also just changed your online store, it's now The FALSE Blackmarkers E-Store. What's the difference between this store and the previous one?

Le Messie: We’ve partnered with a brilliant online e-commerce store called Blackmarkers.com situated in Canada. They have superb customer support, multiple shipping and payment options and for the majority of our online clients in the US & Europe ship and process orders at light speed. Basically we have professionals now dedicated to making sure your online FALSE orders go straight to you in the fastest possible worry free traceable manner. All products are stocked and ready to ship so if you order today depending on your shipping method you order could reach you in 48 hrs flat. Go grab a look for yourself at http://store.wearefalse.com

LupEND Blog: It seems like the FALSE brand is reaching out to a lot of people all over the world through all different types of networking sites. You're on Twitter, there are several FaceBook pages and you just recently joined Steven Vogel's Black Lodge. How important is the internet for your brand?

Le Messie: The internet plays a very pivotal role as with most other brands, the internet is like 2nd home to a majority of the generation today and we play in it as much as anyone else. I personally love it, being situated far away in Singapore it keeps me connected to everything and on the go it’s almost as good as me being at every event, launch, product release, party, etc.

LupEND Blog: Let's talk about your music a bit. You recently launched the FALSE Sounds Facebook page where people can listen to a track called "Tarantula Mambata" and there'll be an EP dropping in November called "My Minds A Scary Place". What can we expect from this project and are all the tracks instrumentals or will you also have some features on it (I read something about a possible Lupe feature)?

Le Messie: Yes, I’m very proud of the new sound I’ve found and want to portray it to the world. I found that sound in searching for music to be placed on the latest Lupe album coming up “Lasers”. Again I think the best part about releases is their surprise aspect and I won’t reveal too much but come end year you’ll get to fill your ipods with some new sounds. I thank everyone for their support and digging the new sound.

LupEND Blog: What inspires you to do music? And are there any artists that motivate you to keep doing what you do?

Le Messie: Music is like 2nd nature to me, whenever I get ideas for design or music they happen the same way, a sudden burst of ideas just get released in my mind and it’s usually when I’m relaxing, watching a movie or something. I then just proceed to my little black box and start following what this energy tells me to do.. There are an array of artists out that that have inspired me, I’m very open to music and generally love all types of sounds. I truly about listen to everything, I love tempo and beats, it’s our human innate ability to love them as when we first entered this world all we heard for months before is the steady tempo of our mothers heart beat. Listen and watch the video by Massive Attack entitled Teardrop to feel what I mean.

LupEND Blog: Now that we are talking about music...I remember a while back you updated your Facebook page and said that you sent some beats to Lupe Fiasco for his upcoming album "Lasers". How are the chances that we'll hear another one of your productions on a Lupe Fiasco album?

Le Messie: That’s where I found that “Tarantula Mambata” sound! An array of beats were thrown to Lupe so I’m not sure yet if he’s using any of them as of yet. Majority of my sound time is now dedicated to productions for Japanese Cartoon and my personal project “My Minds A Scary Place.”

LupEND Blog: Cool...that actually leads perfectly into my next question...Japanese Cartoon...I know there's a lot of mystery surrounding this band. Can you tell us something about the project?

Le Messie: Haa haa, well it’s a band signed under 1st & 15th! It’s heavy, it’s groovy, it’s hard but most of all it’s brand new, brand new sounds from the underground, truly like nothing you’ve ever heard before. The key to any form of success is the ability to peek into the future and create for that vision that you peeked into. With Japanese Cartoon, music for the next generation is being built as we speak..

LupEND Blog: Ok...we're almost done,..last thing... what's up with your head tattoo is it complete now? and how painful was it to get it?

Le Messie: Ohh yes the head tattoo, haa. It’s about 98% done just have to go back for my touch-ups which I haven’t done. 18 hrs under the needle and the type of sustaining pain I’ve never felt has made this a very spiritual worthwhile experience. It’ll be with me till the day I die so it has to be.

LupEND Blog: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview..
really appreciate it!

Le Messie: Hey, thank you for what you do, we would never be where we are today without the passion and dedication from people like you who do a splendid job.

Lupe Fiasco's Lasers - The Story So Far

The hype and the anticipation for Lupe's 3rd album "Lasers" gets bigger and bigger every day.

Here's what we've heard about the album within' the last few months:

It all started at the end of March with Lupe saying that "LupE.N.D." and "The Great American Rap Album" wouldn't happen and instead he'd call his 3rd album "Lasers". At this point he stated that the album was already 60% done.

In the weeks after that we got some live snippets of 2 new songs (Shining Down & Army Girl - you know...the one where he sings "here comes my army girl", don't know if that's the official title though) and after that the LASERS Manifesto was put up on the FNF Army Site. B.o.B also put up 2 clips of him and Lupe on youtube and he said that they're working on a track together. Just a few days later Lupe decided to stream that track and the full version of Shining Down on uStream.

Shortly after that Lupe went to LA to work on tracks with The Neptunes, Krayzie Bone/Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, 1500 or Nothin' and Pooh Bear x King David. (the Bone Thugs track will most likely end up on their upcoming UNI 5 album)

Furthermore the following people (or people who know them) stated that they would or already have worked on upcoming projects with Lupe:

Le Messie (Submitted beats for Lasers and said that there could be a Lupe collabo on his upcoming EP), Matthew Santos (is featured on 2 tracks on Lasers), Soundtrakk (produced several tracks for Lasers), Ian Astbury (is working on a project influenced by Japanese street culture with Lupe), Soulja Boy (said that he's working with Lupe, probably producing), Charles Hamilton (said that he's involved in the Lasers project in one way or another), B.o.B (recorded one or more tracks with Lupe but it's not known if those will end up on Lasers), Bam, drummer from 1500 or Nothin (said that we can hear him on Lupe's upcoming album), The Knux (said that Curren$y & Lupe will be on a remix of their track "Fire")

In the earlier stages Lupe also said that there could be collaborations with Bun B and Kid Cudi on "Lasers". Shortly after that some rumors were circulating, saying that Kid Cudi and Lupe worked on several tracks together in New York....but we didn't hear anything else about it.

On June 16th an unfinished version of Shining Down leaked onto the internet. Lupe responded to the leak with a comment that he posted on this blog . He also stated that the album was 95% done at that point.

On June 19th Lupe's official website was updated and on June 20th Lupe performed Shining Down for the first time live at the Bun B and friends concert. However he didn't perform the full track (he left out the 2nd verse).

The full track was performed live for the first time at his concert @ the Chicago Theatre on June 26th. So far Lupe didn't perform the track together with Matthew Santos though.

As you (should) know by now, Shining Down will be officialy released through i-tunes and all other digital outlets on Tuesday, July 7th.

Earlier this week 2 snippets of 2 new tracks hit the net (2 Ways x Ladies and Gentlemen) and they are supposedly part of the album (Update: 2 Ways is the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony track and will most likely end up on their upcoming album). Besides that the site wearenotlosers.com which features a promo video for Lasers went online.

3 days ago we got the last update about the album so far... - @ Summerfest Lupe announced that "Lasers" was finally finished and that it will most likely drop by the end of this year (December)....

Love Always Shines Every-time Remember 2 Smile!

(Could be that I left some parts out..yeah..but this should be enough for now. I especially put this together for people who maybe haven't followed the progress of the album as much as some others did, I hope you're as up-to-date now as possible. Also, all of this was posted on the blog before, just not in one entry. You can use the search function if you want to find out more about certain things. And don't shoot me if some of the above mentioned collabo's won't happen..lol)
