R.I.P. Michael Jackson
It's been talked about everywhere and I thought it was worth a mention here. I'm sure you all know by now that the King of Pop passed away. I know this isn't Lupe related, but I thought we could all show and pay our respect.
Update:
Lupe said the following to MTV: "I'm hurt, but I'm celebrating his life and his music. Dancing and crying and dancing in public. Holding heart-to-heart conversations with complete strangers about one of the things, if not the only thing, we share in common, That Is The Legendary MoonWalker Himself.
A white guy in a pickup truck pulled alongside me on the expressway and shouted to me, had I heard about Mike?!? It's surreal and it's everywhere!!! Every time I feel like getting sad, one of his songs comes on, and I'm just filled with happiness and start singing and smiling.
He was the best to ever do it. Salaams, Peace & Blessings. May Allah have mercy on his soul. We Love You MJ!!!"

Lupe Fiasco Concert in Chicago - No longer Free/Outdoors
Last month it was announced that Lupe would play a free concert in conjunction with the Nike 6.0 BMX Open in Chicago on June 26th. Well, things have changed since then.....
The event has been moved from Grant Park to the Chicago Theatre, in an effort to avoid overlapping with the Taste of Chicago music stage. More importantly, the show now costs $20, instead of being free (tickets are available starting today at the Chicago Theatre box office or via Ticketmaster)
Also, Lady Sovereign has been added to the bill. She'll perform at 9:30 p.m. and Lupe will go on at 10:15p.m. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.

Lupe Talks About The Shining Down Leak
what up ya'll...Lupe here...first lemme make a few things very clear.
1. I love the fansite alot i think its dope...i feel flattered that i have so many people interested and in support of my music and the messages that i try to stand for...and not just me but for Hey Champ and the crew and damn near anybody who even resembles me...you gives give them shine and i commend you for that.
2. I DONT LEAK MY OWN RECORDS!!! I'M NOT A FAN OF LEAKING RECORDS OR OF DOWNLOADING!!! My entire first album leaked and possibly cost me from going platinum my first time out as the final estimates of how many people actually downloaded that album illegally was well over half a million. So how do u think i feel that everytime i come to this site where my "fans" are i see you putting up links to download my records???...I dont care about the other sites. I care about where my real fans are supposed to be active. If you come across it and you like it and keep it to yourself thats all cool with me but to make it where as other people are able to download it in a public forum is honestly an insult to me. Especially because of how much i love you guys. that shit is kinda like a slap in the face.
3. FAKE SHORE DRIVES "UNRELEASED" RECORDS COME FROM MY OLD PRODUCERS WHO HAVE MY OLD HARD DRIVES. I DONT AGREE WITH THAT SHIT OR CO-SIGN IT AT ALL ITS THE REASON I STOPPED DOING MIXTAPES AND I TOLD ANDREW THIS WHEN WE MET IN CHICAGO AT THE COCA-COLA TOUR SHOW AND HE THOUGHT I WAS GONNA BE ALL PISSED BUT IT WAS ALL LOVE AND I TOLD HIM I KNOW WHERE HE'S GETTING THOSE RECORDS FROM AND HE AINT GOT WORRY ABOUT ME HE GOTTA WORRY ABOUT ATLANTIC OR ARISTA OR THE PUBLISHERS OF THOSE VERY "UNCLEARED AND UNCLEARABLE" SAMPLES.
Everytime i get the urge to do something new for my fans I go online and see "new unreleased lupe" from 6 years ago and i shrug and just say fuck it. Things like that fuck up the real plans and the mood. You dont just throw out bunch of records for the sake of having a bunch of records out. I dont operate like that as an artist. Some records aren't even meant to come out.
4. When we were talking about who should have first rights to new shit when we do officially "leak" something the only two sites that came up was LupEnd Blog and Nahright. Thats big whether you know that or not. You have a direct relationship with the artist you rock with who puts your name in the hat for everything that involves him online.
5. Someone hacked my email. I was about to fire my entire staff and cut off relationships over shining down leaking last night. Bun B hit me and was like "the records dope" and i was like "what record?" nobody even has it. the only possible explanation is my email chain with the mix studio (which is air tight...the studio that is) was hacked and thats where the record came from.
Lastly, the album is fucking ridiculous. I dont like to brag or shit like that but the album is sooooo fucking crazy at this point 95% done. and its all balls to the wall fire. I have the experience and the freedom now to make what i think will be the best received album of my career.
Lupe in the club??? Blasphemy!!!!
We're Not Losers...
___________________
-alright...y'all probably know what that means...no more leaked tracks on here. I also never wanted to insult anyone...I just didn't know better...so...I'm sorry for that...won't happen again.
And Lupe...I really appreciate that you took the time to clear things up and also that you considered to give us the first rights to your new material. That really means a lot to us.
So...Shining Down leaked, huh?
Yeah..Shining Down leaked...and I can tell you...someone's not
happy about it...I had to take Rhymestyle's entry down.
(Below is my comment on the situation before I knew what was going on...you can basically forget about most of the things I said....just keeping it up so you know what Lupe replied to.)
Oh yeah...to whoever runs that WeAreLasers twitter (probably not Lupe...what's up Busy?) I took that entry down out of respect...but...don't be mad at me because a track leaked...it's not my fault and I didn't even put it up on here...also...you have no say in what I post...if you want to tell me what I put up on my blog then pay me.
You also can't deny that I'm making your own work easier...so you know...I do what I want (Lasers manifesto point 7 - read it!). Besides that you can find the track on any other hip hop related site...so why not on here, too?
Anyways...probably Lupe leaked it himself (update: he actually didn't)...if it wasn't him then the real thing you should worry about is where that leak came from.
That's all...I'll just keep looking in the sky and enjoy the music, 'cause in the end that's the only thing that really matters to me...
We're not Losers, We Are LASERS baby!

Lupe Fiasco x Trey Songz (Update)
Devin S. reports that Lupe updated his twitter and said that Trey Songz would be in a certain studio this tuesday...if you check his twitter though, you'll see that there's no update like this.
Update: The twitter update was actually about Trey Songz being @ Studio1290 on tuesday - www.studio1290.com - that's a part of Atlantic's website where they have exclusive in-studio performances or interviews...it doesn't mean that Lu & Trey will be working together.

Soulja Boy Talks About Working With Lupe Fiasco - HoneyMag.com Interview
HM: So what do you have coming up after the BET Awards? Is there new music coming or any new projects you’re working on?
SB: I’m in the studio with Snoop Dogg and Jamie Foxx working on their new albums. I’m working with Lupe Fiasco. I should be releasing my third album this year called “The DeAndre Way.”
It’s titled after my real name because this is going to be my realest album. I’m pretty sure that my fans are going to enjoy this.
HM: You said you’re working with Snoop, Jamie, and Lupe. Are these features or are you producing?
SB: I’m producing and writing songs. It’s like what I did with Bow Wow’s “Marco Polo” and V.I.C’s “Get Silly.”

Classic Mixtape: Lupe Fiasco - Revenge Of The Nerds

Mom packs us a lunch and we're off to school
They call us nerds 'cause we're so uncool
They laugh at our clothes
They laugh at our hair
The girls walk by with their nose in the air
So go ahead, put us down
One of these days we'll turn it around
Won't be long, mark my words
Time has come for revenge of the nerds!!!

Chuck Anderson - Psdtuts+ Interview
Emil Agarunov just recently interviewed Chuck Anderson for the site Psdtuts+.
Here's the part of the interview in which Chuck talked about creating the Food & Liquor cover together with Lupe:
Many of our readers might not know, but you were the designer of the critically acclaimed album "Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor." Could you walk us through the whole process, from being contacted to creating the cover. And did you work hands on with the artist? Or did he give you a specific outline for the cover?
Chuck: Lupe is a really visionary artist who is in a great position to promote fresh art and design. He contacted me after I met with him several years to do photos of him for LTD Magazine - we met in person in Chicago at St. Alfred's for that photo shoot and stayed in touch after.
As for the process, he had this crazy skateboard with an illustration on it that inspired the whole look of him floating in the air with things around him.
We met up at a studio in Chicago, I did all the photography of him for the cover and back cover of the booklet, then shot all the photos of his belongings that are floating around him.
So the vision and concept was all his - as for the aesthetic, production, and execution, that was all mine, inspired by his words and thoughts for it. Turned out really cool - a very memorable cover for a unique artist.

So...here we have the final version of the video! Some pre-rough cut footage of it hit the net like a week ago and Kanye was understandably not very happy about it...
What I like most about this video (besides Rihanna) is that Ye and his people remastered the whole track for it...definitely dope!
