Concert Review - Indiana University:

Ok well.. This concert is everything I expected to see, it was my 2nd Lupe concert I went to and it was much more hype since last time. I was going wild, I'm sure everyone around my was pretty pissed because I was soo hyped, spitting all the lyrics/doing all the motions/dancing/etc as the show was going on. He started out with Kick Push, which was amazing!! It was like last time, except times 100. He then performed Hip Hop Saved My Life, but only did his first verse and then Bishop G did his verse. After that I think the next song was Dumb It Down with a different beat and it was real hype, then the song faded into I Gotcha. Then the drums for Little Weapon came on and Lupe spoke about how the problem the country faced was War and then went into the song after his speech. AND THEN... drum rolls please... A NEW SONG FROM THE LUPEND ALBUM was premiered!!! The song was AMAZING!!!! I dont think it had a name, Lu and Bishop just said it was "new shit" from the album... and the chorus was "NEW SHIT NEW SHIT" HAHAHA... the song was AMAZING THOUGH. After that Lu finished the show with Paris Tokyo and Daydreamin'. (I may be leaving some details out because I was soo hype and cant remember right now) Anyways, as expected I Went in, came out super sweaty and tired, I was damn near competing with Bishop G at performing because I was going wild from my seat. Speaking of which, I was soo wild Bishop spotted me in the crowd and I was on the 23rd row, but I stood out like crazy!!

Anyways, after the concert, I went outside and went around to the left of the Auditorium and Bishop G opened the door for me and I made this video

7 Lessons To Learn At A Lupe Fiasco Concert

at the Fillmore in NY

Lesson One: If you have tickets to a free concert that admits people in on a first-come-first-serve basis, an hour early arrival is not early enough!

-Security allowed folks in at 6PM. I arrived at 5PM. And there was still a long line of people in front of me. Maybe it’s just me; I’m not the type to wait long hours for anything…except Lupe.

Lesson Two: Tall people should not stand in the front of the audience.

-Seriously! If I can’t even see above your shoulder, even while I’m tip-toeing, then you need to move!

Lesson Three: Beware of girls standing in front of you who have big hair and like to twirl their head around.

-This chick slapped me twice with her ponytail, I wanted to take her ponytail and shove it down her throat!

Lesson Four: Lupe likes it when you shout: “I LOVE YOU, LUPE!”
-He’ll reply, “I love you too”—unless you’re a dude.

Lesson Five: Lupe loves it when you memorize his lyrics.

-He paid close attention to a particular girl in the audience who knew the lyrics to “Sunshine” like, he made eye contact with her and everything and he got a kick out of it. I don’t normally memorize artists’ lyrics, unless I hear it often. But, I’ll memorize Lupe’s just so he can make eye contact with me at his next NYC concert.

Lesson Six: Lupe loves “love.”

-He loved it enough to let his personal photographer, Bryant, propose to his girlfriend, Janie, during his set. Definitely an “Aww!” moment.

Lesson Seven: If you’re gonna stand for four straight hours at a concert, at least wear some comfortable shoes!

-Heels at a concert? Never again!

It's been 3 weeks...

since the Paris, Tokyo remix was supposed to drop....

so..next time there's an announcement saying "It's gonna drop next week"
I'll just expect it 4-5 weeks later


I mean...it's by far not the first time this happened...
and it really takes away all the excitement...

If it would've just been dropped without any announcement
reactions would have been like...

"OMG..where did that come from?"

And people would have been getting more hyped again for everything.

Don't get me wrong..I still want to hear it and
I'm still excited to hear them all on one track

It's just...hmm...idk...
It would've been crazy to just see it poppin' up
somewhere without knowing about it before.

Lupe Fiasco has been added to the list of performers at this years VMA's

Here's what they say:

MTV network also announced performers Katy Perry, T-Pain, Lupe Fiasco and The Ting Tings. Performers already announced include Rihanna, Pink, Paramore and T.I., who will be making his first appearance at a major awards show since his arrest right before an awards ceremony last year. The Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne and Kid Rock are also scheduled to do their thing onstage.

-I'm still not sure if he's actually gonna perform because it's not on MTV's website yet, but it would be super dope to see him onstage performing at the VMA's.

At the front of the park, a late-arriving Lupe Fiasco tried his best to get the crowd in gear, starting with The Cool’s “Kick Push,” for which his band pulled out the stops, blending rock, soul, blues and hip hop elements in an awesome extended mashup. In fitted slick black track suit and a single piece of gold jewelry, Lupe was like a toned-down Kanye: less boastful but just as assured. It was easy then to get the crowd to agree when he asked “Who here loves hip hop? I love hip hop. ‘Cuz hip hop saved my life,” before launching into that titular track. Still, people weren’t bouncing as much as he would have liked, so Lupe spent his energy rushing the crowd and beseeching them, with raised arms, to rally. It was a battle he’d continue to fight through the set; at least, when he wasn’t wooing the ladies with tracks like “Sunshine.” It was pretty hard-fought—many folks remained seated on the ground. Perhaps if he’d dedicated “Sunshine” to the Potermelon instead of the women present, he’d have gotten better results.

Lupe Fiasco Interview With The Windy City Times

Lupe Fiasco entertained teens at the Park West on Sunday, Aug. 17, in an invitation only concert sponsored by Coca-cola. The“ Refresh Your Flow Tour” hit major cities along with Chicago to give teens an opportunity to meet the artist responsible for the songs “Superstar” and “ Paris Tokyo.” With the line wrapped around the building, Lupe sat down for a few minutes to talk to Windy City Times.

Windy City Times: Many people may not know that you are from Chicago. Where did you grow up?

Lupe Fiasco: West Side, Madison and Kedzie. I went to school there until 6th grade then moved to the suburbs.

WCT: And now you are a Grammy winner. You seem like you have surrounded yourself with amazing artists. What was it like performing with Kanye West, Snoop Dogg and Jill Scott?

LF: It was dope, crazy experiences with Patrick from Fall Out Boy and The Roots. It's a dream come true.

WCT: I love your song “Hip Hop Saved my Life.” What inspired it?

LF: When I did that song a year and half ago, Hip Hop was getting a lot of bad press. I wanted to put a statement out there that Hip Hop saves a lot of people. Sometimes that's all people have got.

WCT: How did you get involved with the tour?

LF: Coca-cola invited me out. This gave me an opportunity to perform my music for a large section of my fan, which are underage kids and teenagers. I have done this venue before. This group can't come to the venues that are 18 and over.

WCT: Do you have other tours planned for the future?

LF: I am putting together a big college tour for the fall.
Then I am going back overseas.

WCT: And you just did Lollapalooza here in Chicago, so you are all over the place. What is the next step for you musically?

LF: Working on my next album and working on my label.

First off, how do you define fresh?

My new thing is that I want to be so fresh that it offends people. I want people to feel a little disrespected when I show up with the clothes I have on. I have the entire globe as my reference, and I shop everywhere around the world, so I rock items that people have never even heard about, let alone seen.

So basically, being fresh is just a part of you, it comes naturally, from kicks to clothes to hair styles, it’s part of your being?

Oh yea, definitely. Freshness is everything you do. From what you eat, drink, watch on TV(or don’t watch on TV), movies, books, mags, websites, girls you holla @… just everything you do with your life determines how fresh you are. Being fresh is the number one responsibility in the profession I’m in, so I analyze freshness with a little bit more detail and intensity than anyone else. Fresh is more of a direct science to me.

Do you draw inspiration for freshness from the people around you (i.e. Kanye, Diamond, Lupe)?

I really just have my own style that comes from me, but I will say that Kanye, Lupe and Nick have given me some really nice gifts.

I bet 90% of the people who read this are gonna say yes.

I, for my part did it at every show I've been to so far.
I just think it's a great symbol to show how you are connected to Hip Hop.
It's way more than just the ROC, Dynasty, Jay-Z sign.

It became a symbol for Hip Hop and
good music throughout the whole world.

No matter in which country you are...
everyone interested in Hip Hop knows this sign and what it stands for.

You even see it at shows that are not hip hop related at all.

Lupe Fiasco To Perform At UWM's PantherFest

The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee hosts its largest event of the year on Friday, Sept. 5th at the Marcus Amphitheater. Following up on last year’s inaugural PANTHERFEST, a celebration for the entire UWM community, UWM has booked Lupe Fiasco and Jack’s Mannequin to play the Amphitheater starting at 8 p.m.

Lupe Fiasco - Glow In The Dark Tour MSG - Review

Ok...this is a little late..

but I wasn't able to check my mails for a couple of days
and this still deserves an entry

So..here it goes:


This concert would’ve been a more enjoyable experience for me if:
a) the lady sitting across from me on the train hadn’t burst out crying.
She brung down my spirit a little bit!
b) my dumb ass hadn’t walked all the way around the arena just to get to the entrance
c) there weren’t so many tall people standing in front of me d) if the security guards weren’t being such douche bags
e) if the arena had sold some Lupe merchandise (Seriously, not even a poster!)
f) if my ticket hadn’t cost $180

However, once Lupe came on stage, all of that was forgotten. He killed it. The guy has so much energy, kicking and pushing and jumping around on stage as if he was high off caffeine. It was like he was another person (Carrera Lu, maybe?)

He first came on stage when N.E.R.D. did “Spaz;” he, Teyana Taylor and Pharrell were doing that corny, running-man type of dance. I don’t know what they were doing, but it was corny yet cool at the same time because there was a bunch of them doing it on the stage all at once. Then, N.E.R.D. did “She Wants to Move” and brung out a bunch of girls on stage, which I was not pleased about (Jealous, much? Maybe…) I just assumed that they were backstage groupies.

Anyway, back to Lupe’s set…I swear I blushed when he sung Jill Scott’s part to “Daydreamin’.” Nowadays, rappers swear that they’re rappers-turned-singers, but Lupe surprised me. And he was smiling a few times during his set. (AH! *Groupie Alert*) For the coup de grâce, he did “Superstar.” Towards the end, he, Matt Santos and Bishop G “pass ed out” and Lu clapped his heels while lying on his backs. I’m thinking, “This dude should’ve headlined this tour!” After his performance, the crowd was chanting his name (As they should! All hail the king!)

I enjoyed Kanye’s set. I didn’t realize the guy had so many hits. No doubt, I’m a fan of his, but towards of the end of his set, I kept thinking, “Please do ‘Touch the Sky”!” (Just so Lupe could come back on stage once more.) And, sure enough, he did! That was the last song Kanye did, until he surprised us with a guest by the name of Jay-Z (BK, ALL DAY!!!) “Blueprint III, Coming Soon...”

All in all, I enjoyed myself. And I will be waiting for Lupe to come back to NYC (only this time I won’t wait until the last minute to buy a ticket and end up paying more ½ of my paycheck.)

A Review of Somerset House (07.14.08, London)

When Lupe Fiasco released The Cool album earlier this year, it saw him engaging more than ever with the traditional issues of hip-hop: guns, drugs, crime and girls. His take on it all though, is one of detached bemusement and articulate sympathy rather than gangster bravado or arguably even worse, self-righteous condemnation. It is a record befitting the most articulate man in hip-hop. Tonight he alternates, almost song by song, between that record and 2006’s Food and Liquor, including a blistering rendition of his most successful single to date, ‘I Gotcha’. A smile never leaves his face as his band lovingly support him in a set unembellished by dancers, props, or expletive-strewn diatribes about any violent past.

When he does look back at ‘where arr currm frorrrm’ it is not with the unattractive menace of the more self-aggrandising figures in the hip-hop, but through a lens of genuine thankfulness and a subtlety suggesting a complex and heartfelt relationship with how far he has come. Not a single piece of jewellery adorns Lupe tonight, as any decoration at all would be overwhelmed by the extraordinary energy of this classy, talented bastard. He seems like a child as he launches himself from one side of the stage to the other, yet maintains a devastating physical grace. As well as ‘I Gotcha’, the ground shook particularly hard to ‘Kick, Push’, ‘Hip-hop Saved My Life’ and ‘Superstar’ – something Lupe is, thankfully, not.

Indeed, all the false compliments that are lavished on Kanye West – for his production, insight and sampling – are genuinely true of Lupe, and with this show proving his live worth, he is becoming something of a phenomenon.

Lupe Fiasco's show has improved somewhat since the last time I caught his act about a year or so ago. The major change has been the addition of a full band. For his set on the South Stage, he dipped in and out of his two albums, the acclaimed Food and Liquor and the ambitious but muddled The Cool.

The music was punched up with more rock guitar, as Lupe bounded around the stage, shadowed by a hypeman. Still, there's something very businesslike about the Chicago rapper's show. Beyond all the hopping around and the rock-suffused music, there was something very studied about his performance, as if he rehearsed it in the mirror at home. That same calculated feel sometimes permeates his albums.
